Sony - Do They Have Another Hit on Their Hands?

Sony Reader PRS-505When you hear the name Sony - what comes to mind? Is it the music label giant that introduced artists such as Michael Jackson and Britney Spears; the maker of excellent home entertainment systems; or, is it the company that pioneered mobile music with the introduction of the Walkman portable tape player? One thing seems clear Sony has always been at the forefront of innovation. And, it seems that Sony might still be leading the mobilerevolution with their newest gadget, the Sony Reader PRS-505.

Several years ago, Sony introduced the world to the first mobile electronic reader. It was an impressive device at the time, incorporating a new technology that will certainly revolutionize the printing and publishing industry, E-Ink.

But, its first release in Japan, a nation obsessed with the newest and smallest mobile gadget, was almost a complete flop. That wouldn't deter Sony and it went back to the drawing board.

What they came up with was an improved version of the first reader - having a few extra features and a considerably better selection of reading material to choose from in their own Connect eBookstore. Sony also decided to release this version in the USA, hoping to compete with Amazons kindle electronic book reader.

Let's have a look at some of the features the Sony Reader PRS-505 has to offer...

Impressive, paper-like display

The Sony Reader boasts an impressive 6 inch display, utilizing breakthrough E Ink technology that's almost paper-like. In addition, the text can be magnified for sight-impaired readers. Daylight readable, high contrast, high resolution and a near 180º viewing angle.

Ultra portable

The Sony Reader offers a unique, on-the-go reading experience. With a very compact and lightweight design, you can take it almost anywhere. More compact than many paperbacks, it weighs 9 ounces and is ½" thin. You can easily hold it in one hand while sipping coffee with the other. And with its rechargeable battery, you can turn up to 7,500 continuous pages on a single charge.

Content Storage Capability

The Sony Reader offers 64MB of internal memory, and a slot for optional removable memory cards you can take many titles, user-selected Web content, or other supported documents for reading on the go. Will hold up to 80 electronic books in internal memory and hundreds more with Memory Stick media or SD memory card.

Multiple eBook titles available

The Sony Reader will allow you to search, browse and discover thousands of popular electronic book titles from the CONNECT eBook online store. You can then purchase and download these titles to your PC and easily transfer to your Sony Reader.

More Than ebooks

The Sony Reader isn't just about reading electronic books. Using the included CONNECT Reader PC Software, you can easily transfer Adobe PDF documents, BBeB Books, and other text file formats to the Reader. Also, search, browse and download user-selected RSS Web content from the CONNECT Store to the PC and easily transfer to the Sony Reader. Take along Web newsfeeds, blogs and more.

Exceptional Battery life

The Sony Reader is extremely energy efficient. Its rechargeable internal battery can power you through up to 7,500 continues page turns, so you are ready for the long haul. The battery can be recharged in as little as 4 hours with the included AC adapter and even can recharge from your PCs USB port.

The Sony Reader PRS-505 is clearly an excellent electronic book reader. The only question that remains is will it be able to compete with Amazons kindle? Only time will tell.
