Recently, Amazon announced that its Kindle Electronic Book Reader did its best sales ever in November. Amazon has never released the actual numbers (which it keeps closely guarded) of units sold or revenue but it did say that the Kindle electronic reader was the best seller across ALL of its product categories.

Electronic Reader Thanksgiving

Giving Thanks for Electronic Book Readers and e-Books

It has been close to 2 years now for Electronic Reader Review and we have a lot to be thankful for...

  • We thank insightful and progressive companies such as Amazon and Sony for jumping in and really leading the way in this new market. The Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader are hands down at the top of the game and for good reason...they're great products!

  • We'd like to thank Google for pushing the digital publishing boundaries by making over 300,000 classic and out of print books available to the masses...for free!

  • We thank Amazon, Blurb and Lulu for helping regular people write, publish and distribute their own books.
  • We'd like to thank the Search Engines: Google, Bing, Yahoo, MSN and the many others for indexing Electronic-Reader.com and sending your eyes our way.

  • Finally, we'd like to thank you, the reader. It seems that one of the biggest benefits gained from electronic readers and digital books is that it is once again cool to read!

Thanks again everyone. We hope you have a fun and safe thanksgiving!

The International Kindle Doesn’t Fly In Canada...Yet

Recently, Amazon announced the new International Kindle with availability in over 100 countries. So, why then can't Canadians get their hands on this electronic reader?

When asked via email, Amazon spokesmen Drew Herdener said: "Kindle with US and International Wireless has wireless connectivity in Canada. We want to ship to Canada and are working on it." When pressed on the issue of what was holding the International Kindle up he would not comment further.

Some have suggested that it is Canadian Publishers that are holding up the Amazon Kindles release. However, the Association of Canadian Publishers has said that there have been no issues with copyright and so it must be something to do with the wireless networks.

Until only a few weeks ago Rogers Communications was the only wireless operator in Canada using the same technology as the International Kindle. However, Bell and Telus have announced a new next-gen network that will be compatible with the Amazon Kindle (and the iPhone) therefore giving Amazon more options in choosing a wireless network partner.

What’s the “Story”? iRiver to Join the Electronic Reader Market

The iRiver Story takes a page from the Sony Reader and the Amazon Kindle

You have to give iRiver, a company out of South Korea credit. They may not be on the forefront of electronics innovation or hugely successful with the products they do sell, but that doesn't seem to stop them from trying.

As we all know, the electronic reader market has literally exploded in the last several months and so it's no surprise that iRiver has come out with a new addition to its line-up: the iRiver Story Electronic Reader.

So, what does the iRiver Story have to offer?

Sony PRS-700 Digital Book Reader Review

Sony LogoAs you all know, there is a battle going on in the world of electronic book readers between Amazon and Sony. A couple of weeks ago Amazon released their second generation electronic book reader, the Kindle 2.0. Well, it didn't take long for Sony to counter strike with their second generation electronic reader, the Sony PRS-700. I've seen and used the older version Sony PRS-505 (which I like a lot) but I recently had the opportunity to play with Sony's newest version. I'll say straight out...I like it, but there are a few areas I think it could be stronger.

Let's have a look now and see how it stacks up to the older version Sony and to the Kindle 2.0.

Sony and Google Sign Mega-Deal

Posted in

Sony and Google have announced a deal that will make Google's 500,000 public domain e-books available to Sony and its electronic readers, the PRS-700 and the PRS-505.

This partnership comes at a time when Sony and Amazon are dueling for dominance in the new electronic book reader industry.

This is big news for Sony users as it bumps up their library catalog to nearly 600,000 titles, far more than the 250,000 that Amazon has available. The Google e-books are a part of the public domain, meaning they are freely available to anyone who wants to read them. All of the titles which are available through Google were published before 1923 and include works of fiction and non-fiction in several different languages.

Up until now though these books could only be read on a computer screen which as most of us can attest to causes strain on the eyes after long periods. In contrast, electronic readers use a new technology called e-ink which creates "virtual paper" giving users a reading quality in line with traditional paper.

Welcome to Electronic Reader Review!!!

amazon kindle 2 with bookSo, you've heard a lot about this cool new gadget that everyone, from the guy next door to the evening news, seems to be talking about. Some people are skeptical, insisting electronic readers are just a fad that will die a quiet death. Others compare them to the iPod, insisting that they will revolutionize the publishing industry. But, if you've landed on this website, it's because you probably want to learn a little more about electronic readers.

I have the answers for you!
