A few weeks before Chistmas, Canadians were finally given a chance to purchase the popular electronic reader, the Kindle Global Reader. Now, Amazon has added their premium electronic reader, the Kindle DX. Canadians embraced the Kindle Global and sales were reported to be strong over the holidays.
Amazon does however have some stiff competiton in Canada. Sony offers their line of eReaders (the Sony Touch and Sony Pocket) at selected brick and mortar shops such as Best Buy and Future Shop. Then, after Christmas, Sony began to offer its newest electronic reader, the Sony Daily Edition which offers a large touch screen. Amazon is clearly addressing that challenge. Amazon and Wal-Mart Square up over online Electronic Reader Dominance
Over the past several months the electronic book reader market has been really heating up. Wal-Mart, one of the world's largest retailers, has been quietly sitting on the sidelines watching the action. But with the holiday shopping season ramping up, Wal-Mart isn't going to sit aside any longer.
In a news release, Wal-Mart announced that it would be offering ten highly anticipated new books for sale at an unheard of low price on its online shopping site, Walmart.com.
It looks as though the Amazon Kindle DX can be considered a success. It has sold out - temporarily, of course! After just a couple of weeks officially on sale the Kindle DX founds its audience.
Before the Kindle DX began shipping there were a lot of people questioning the price tag of $489.00. But, it seems the credit crunch hasn't affected many desires for this new gadget. The Amazon Kindle DX has found a market with white collar types who may like the electronic reading device for its built in PDF reader capability.
Let's not forget its many other features, such as a sleek design, a massive 9.7" inch e-ink screen, 3G connectivity and its Whispernet capability, giving it the ability to access the Amazon Store's 275,000 e-books at a discounted price tag.
It seems the digital reading revolution has begun.
As you all know, Amazon has released their newest generation Amazon Kindle DX. It started shipping today (June 10th) to those who had pre-ordered it. So, you can expect some reviews of the Kindle DX in the next couple of days.
