Samsung E6 E-Reader Unveiled

Yet Another Electronic Reader is Introduced to the United States of America

Samsung E6 ReaderSamsung, one of the market leaders in consumer electronics, has revealed the newest addition to its product line, the Samsung E6 eReader. And, this time, the E6 Reader will be available to USA consumers.

The Samsung E6 Electronic Reader is being released with a few features it holds over its competition including a touch screen, a stylus, 2GB of internal memory, an external microSD slot, and both Bluetooth and wireless capability.

One area the new Samsung E6 Reader may catch a snag is in its price; $299. It is somewhat higher than the Nook at $259.00, the Amazon kindle also at $259.00 (I hear rumors that Amazon will be dropping its price soon) and the Sony Reader’s which start at $199.00.

Will the hot E-Reader market bear one more product? Time will tell.

What is E Ink?

Electronic Reader Displays - E Ink

Image of E Ink LogoSince late 2008 one of the biggest and most talked about consumer products have been electronic book readers. Beginning with the Sony PRS-500 Reader and followed closely by the original Amazon kindle, electronic readers are revolutionizing the reading experience. One of the key features behind this revolution has been the e-reader screen, an electronic paper like display, otherwise known as E-Ink.

What is E Ink?

E Ink – the technology that empowers devices like the Amazon kindle and the Barnes and Noble Nook – is a proprietary electronic paper format developed by the E Ink Corporation. The display technology, called EPD – Electronic Paper Display – creates a screen display that simulates the experience of reading from paper.

Amazon releases new software: Kindle for PC

Read kindle Books on your Computer for Free with New kindle for PC Application

Yesterday (Tuesday), Amazon released a new software application allowing kindle users to read their kindle e-books on their PC computers.  The new application syncs with the kindle electronic reader to allow people to switch from one to the other seamlessly.

With kindle's Whispersync feature you can access your full kindle book library, your notes and bookmarks, as well as, shop Amazons collection of over 360,000 e-books

Two shortcomings of this new software are that it does not yet work on Mac. Amazon says that the Mac version is coming soon. Also, kindle newspapers, magazines and blogs are not available yet.

I've just installed the kindle for PC software so check back in a few days for a review. In the meantime, you can get it and try it out for yourself here: Amazon Kindle for PC

Make sure you let us know how you like it!

Samsung Launches the SNE-50K Electronic Reader

Samsung has entered another contender in the rapidly growing electronic reader market

Samsung has had plans for a while to get into the e-reader market. Originally named, the Papyrus, Samsung has renamed its electronic reader the SNE-50K (I preferred Papyrus).  The SNE-50K will initially be sold only in South Korea and Samsung has made no announcements about a possible North American release.

The SNE-50K is a small e-reader, featuring a 5 inch screen and weighing in at only 6.5 ounces. It has 512 MB of memory and is compatible with TXT files and PDF files.

The SNE-50K will also support handwriting recognition software, so users can write and store notes, calendars and schedules. These features are similar to those which night be found on a PDA.

Samsung has partnered with a South Korean online book seller, Kyobo Bookstore Company. Kyobo currently lists about 2500 South Korean e-book titles. The Samsung SNE-50K will sell on Kyobo's website as well as a few of its brick-and-mortar locations.

Reading is About to Get Cool-er!

The Cool-er Electronic Reader is about to stir up the e-reader market

Interead, a UK-based company, has released a new electronic reader that is aimed at buyers who want a full featured, yet inexpensive device.  Interead hopes to fill the demand at the bottom of the market.

So far, electronic readers such as the Amazon kindle, kindle 2, kindle DX as well as the Sony PRS-500, PRS-505 and the PRS-700 series of e-readers are all priced between $299.00 to $489.00.  Many people are interested in these new devices but are perhaps a little hesitant to buy at such high prices.

Wow, good-looking and a cheap date!

Amazon Kindle DX Sold Out

It looks as though the Amazon kindle DX can be considered a success. It has sold out - temporarily, of course! After just a couple of weeks officially on sale the kindle DX founds its audience.

Before the kindle DX began shipping there were a lot of people questioning the price tag of $489.00. But, it seems the credit crunch hasn't affected many desires for this new gadget. The Amazon kindle DX has found a market with white collar types who may like the electronic reading device for its built in PDF reader capability.

Let's not forget its many other features, such as a sleek design, a massive 9.7" inch e-ink screen, 3G connectivity and its Whispernet capability, giving it the ability to access the Amazon Store's 275,000 e-books at a discounted price tag.

It seems the digital reading revolution has begun.
