Amazon Kindle DX Global is Available in Canada! (Revised)

Amazon now ships the Kindle DX to Canada.

Imade of Kindle DX Global Electronic ReaderA few weeks before Chistmas, Canadians were finally given a chance to purchase the popular electronic reader, the Kindle Global Reader. Now, Amazon has added their premium electronic reader, the Kindle DX.  Canadians embraced the Kindle Global and sales were reported to be strong over the holidays.

Amazon does however have some stiff competiton in Canada. Sony offers their line of eReaders (the Sony Touch and Sony Pocket) at selected brick and mortar shops such as Best Buy and Future Shop. Then, after Christmas, Sony began to offer its newest electronic reader,  the Sony Daily Edition which offers a large touch screen. Amazon is clearly addressing that challenge. Here are a few of the features you'll find on the Kindle DX...

Amazon Kindle DX goes Global!

The Kindle DX Joins the Kindle Global Electronic Reader on the International Market

Following the HUGE success of the Kindle Global Wireless electronic reader, Amazon has released a new version of its large screen electronic reader with Global Wireless capability. The Amazon Kindle DX is now available in over 100 countries.

Why choose the Kindle DX Global over the original Kindle electronic book reader?

Electronic Reader Thanksgiving

Giving Thanks for Electronic Book Readers and e-Books

It has been close to 2 years now for Electronic Reader Review and we have a lot to be thankful for...

  • We thank insightful and progressive companies such as Amazon and Sony for jumping in and really leading the way in this new market. The Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader are hands down at the top of the game and for good reason...they're great products!

  • We'd like to thank Google for pushing the digital publishing boundaries by making over 300,000 classic and out of print books available to the masses...for free!

  • We thank Amazon, Blurb and Lulu for helping regular people write, publish and distribute their own books.
  • We'd like to thank the Search Engines: Google, Bing, Yahoo, MSN and the many others for indexing Electronic-Reader.com and sending your eyes our way.

  • Finally, we'd like to thank you, the reader. It seems that one of the biggest benefits gained from electronic readers and digital books is that it is once again cool to read!

Thanks again everyone. We hope you have a fun and safe thanksgiving!

Amazon releases new software: Kindle for PC

Read Kindle Books on your Computer for Free with New Kindle for PC Application

Yesterday (Tuesday), Amazon released a new software application allowing Kindle users to read their Kindle e-books on their PC computers.  The new application syncs with the Kindle electronic reader to allow people to switch from one to the other seamlessly.

With Kindle's Whispersync feature you can access your full Kindle book library, your notes and bookmarks, as well as, shop Amazons collection of over 360,000 e-books.

Two shortcomings of this new software are that it does not yet work on Mac. Amazon says that the Mac version is coming soon. Also, Kindle newspapers, magazines and blogs are not available yet.

I've just installed the Kindle for PC software so check back in a few days for a review. In the meantime, you can get it and try it out for yourself here: Amazon Kindle for PC

Make sure you let us know how you like it!

The International Kindle Doesn’t Fly In Canada...Yet

Recently, Amazon announced the new International Kindle with availability in over 100 countries. So, why then can't Canadians get their hands on this electronic reader?

When asked via email, Amazon spokesmen Drew Herdener said: "Kindle with US and International Wireless has wireless connectivity in Canada. We want to ship to Canada and are working on it." When pressed on the issue of what was holding the International Kindle up he would not comment further.

Some have suggested that it is Canadian Publishers that are holding up the Amazon Kindles release. However, the Association of Canadian Publishers has said that there have been no issues with copyright and so it must be something to do with the wireless networks.

Until only a few weeks ago Rogers Communications was the only wireless operator in Canada using the same technology as the International Kindle. However, Bell and Telus have announced a new next-gen network that will be compatible with the Amazon Kindle (and the iPhone) therefore giving Amazon more options in choosing a wireless network partner.

Amazon Kindle Goes International With Global Wireless

Amazon Kindle Gets Jet Set

In a move to try and capture a slice of the international electronic reader marketplace, Amazon has announced the Kindle International Edition. This is a timely move for the internet retailing giant as the Christmas shopping season is upon us and completion abroad ramps up.

In the last few months several manufactures have released their own electronic reader products overseas including iRex, BeBook, the Cool-er Reader, Plastic Logic, the Samsung SNE-50K and the CyBook Opus. The majority of these come from Europe as it has the next biggest reading market next to the United States.

What’s the “Story”? iRiver to Join the Electronic Reader Market

The iRiver Story takes a page from the Sony Reader and the Amazon Kindle

You have to give iRiver, a company out of South Korea credit. They may not be on the forefront of electronics innovation or hugely successful with the products they do sell, but that doesn't seem to stop them from trying.

As we all know, the electronic reader market has literally exploded in the last several months and so it's no surprise that iRiver has come out with a new addition to its line-up: the iRiver Story Electronic Reader.

So, what does the iRiver Story have to offer?
